| Founders of the Silver Saddle Motel. |
The Silver Saddle Motel was built by Thomas and
Blanche Taylor, starting with the first row of cabins around 1945.
Thomas
had served as a staff sergeant in the army during World War 2.
He survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and later helped
liberate the concentration camp at Dachau. He returned home with a Bronze Star.
During that time, Blanche ran
a beauty shop at the Boulderado Hotel. After patiently saving her money, she eventually purchased seven parcels of property,
one-by-one, where the motel rests today.
When Thomas returned from the service they started a legacy. Life
on the mountainside provided a time of healing for Thomas as he built
cabins and rock walls. There was nothing he seemed
incapable of when it
came to construction. Blanche also turned out to be a smart business
woman. The combination
was dynamite. They literally turned a "rock
pile", as Blanche often referred to it, into a place that has been
enjoyed by
thousands of tourists over the years.
Many life-long friends have been acquired through the
motel. It is an establishment that represents what America was founded on...the dream of starting your own business and working
for yourself. The motel continues to be operated by family members and Blanche is still a very vital part of its existence.
We hope you enjoy your stay at
the Silver Saddle Motel in Boulder, Colorado.
God Bless You!
